Cattleya
If you are looking for large-flowered orchids, you will make a good choice with the genus Cattleya.
Their scent is often legendary. It is native to Central and South America and is one of the larger genera with about 75 species. It is a pure epiphyte that can be found in nature on rocks and trees. Cattleya can be found in many different climates and accordingly in many different color and form characteristics. With the Cattleya the triumph of the orchid in Europe began . Formerly used as a cut flower for floristics, Cattleya has now its rightful place as a potted plant.
Special orchid care instructions for Cattleya
A bright window place and temepratures over 15 °C are necessary. It requires a lot of light and can withstand high temperatures. In the summer you can Cattleya also like to put in the sheltered garden or on the balcony. Cool nights and little or no fertilizer 2-3 months before the natural flowering bring a rich flowering flora. The substrate (orchid soil) must always first dry completely before anew pouring. In the dark season should be less poured. New roots always come with the new drive.
