Cymbidium

Cymbidium Orchid Orchideen

The classic cut flower among the orchids is the Cymbidium. But it has also been successful as a potted plant for several years.

With about 50 species from the countries of origin Japan, Australia and the Southeast Asian  Cymbidium is probably one of the better known genera. Not known are the species but the crossings. Mostly long-stalked and large-flowered and with lots of panicles they rather grow in cooler regions. The recent crossings are rather small flowered but no less colorful and ideal for the temperate to warm windowsill.

Special orchid care instructions for Cymbidium (Boat Orchids)

They prefer an always bright location and like to spend the summer months outside in a not draughty place. Temperature reductions at night promote the buds. Keep watering properly throughout the year. At the same time it is possible to let the planting material dry completely. It should only be fertilized in the light-rich time. In winter, Cymbidium should be lightly nourished. For the sake of the roots, a repot should be conducted after a maximum of 2 years.
