Origin:

From the Pacific Islands to northern Australia. It also grows well as an epiphyte and always thrives in an environment with a constant, even temperature, similar to the genus Phalaenopsis.

Location:

They need plenty of light. That’s why a bright windowsill is best. However, from March through October, the plants should be protected slightly from direct sunlight. They can also tolerate a partially shaded location.

Temperature:

A constant temperature between 20 and 25 °C throughout the year.

Giessen:

When the potting mix is dry (lighter in color), keep it even drier at low temperatures starting in October. Do not leave any standing water in the pot.

Fertilizing:

During the vegetative growth phase, add 0.5 grams or 0.5 milliliters of fertilizer per liter of water once every two weeks. Do not fertilize at all from October 1 through flowering.

Special features:

Repot every 2–3 years in orchid potting mix. It blooms in early spring, usually on the previous year’s shoot, which loses its leaves beforehand. New shoots appear in summer. If the plant is kept in conditions that are too damp during the winter, the bud for the new annual shoot may rot.
