Origin:
Mexico and the West Indies—some species are also found in subtropical South America. They grow primarily as epiphytes.
Location:
A bright spot, with light shade in the summer. For many species, spending the summer outdoors is very beneficial. In the summer, temperatures of 22–25 °C are ideal. In the winter, the temperature should not drop below 15 °C.
Giessen:
Water generously while the new shoots are growing, and keep the soil dry during the winter dormant period, taking care not to let the bulbs shrivel.
Fertilizing:
During the growing season, add orchid fertilizer at the recommended concentration every 2 to 3 waterings.
Special features:
Encyclia are often found in relatively dry areas, so they are suitable for indoor cultivation even when dry air cannot be avoided.
