Origin:
Central and South America. In the wild, they are found in tropical and subtropical regions as perching birds.
Location:
They need plenty of light, so place them on a bright windowsill. In the summer, provide light protection from the harsh sun. In the summer, a partially shaded spot in the garden is also suitable.
Temperature:
Between 20 and 25 °C. Slightly cooler at night. In winter, 18 °C during the day and 15 °C at night are sufficient.
Giessen:
Only when the soil is dry (lighter in color). In general, water very sparingly. Do not leave any standing water in the planter or window box.
Fertilizing:
During the growing season, add 0.5 grams or 0.5 milliliters of fertilizer per liter of water once a week. Do not fertilize in the winter.
Special features:
Repot every 2–3 years in orchid potting mix. A flower spike emerges from the new shoot in the fall and continues through spring. A new shoot grows each summer. It is particularly well-suited for a windowsill or sunroom.
