Plant protection for orchids

Just like other houseplants, orchids are not immune to unwelcome pests, but thanks to effective plant protection products, pest infestation is not a death sentence. It is important to act immediately as soon as the infestation becomes visible, then the stubborn pest can usually be brought under control within a few weeks.

A wide range of plant protection products against the most common orchid pests is available on the market, all of which are very easy to use. Many products have a broad spectrum of efficacy, but it is still worth checking which pests the active ingredient can be used against in order to eradicate them specifically.

Natural or synthetic active ingredient plant protection products

Plant protection products are based either on the natural plant extract neem or on a synthetic active ingredient. They are sometimes sprayed on, sometimes applied as granules. Many active ingredients are initially absorbed by the plant and act systemically, i.e. from the inside out, after a few days, while others combat the pests through direct contact. However, one thing applies to all preparations: they must be used with caution, as they are toxic substances. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and prevent the products from being released into the environment.

A combination of several measures increases the control success. Some preparations can be used in combination, but the simultaneous use of yellow boards and pesticides and simply collecting the annoying beasts before applying insecticides or slug pellets also helps to get rid of pests even faster.
