Epidendrum
Epidendrum is an extremely versatile genus. They range from very small to super long.
The over 700 species come mainly from Central and South America. With a few exceptions, Epidendrum grows epiphytically on trees and rocks. In recent years botanists have extensively regrouped this genus and some species have been transferred to other genera.
Special orchid care tips for Epidendrum (tree rooters)
Epidendrum needs a bright sunlit location. In summer you may need to provide some shade so that the leaves do not burn. In summer, Epidendrum tolerates temperatures of 18 - 25 °C. In winter, this species prefers a slightly cooler temperature of 12-15 °C. During the growth phase, it must be watered thoroughly. However, Epidendrum has a pronounced dormant period during which it should be kept drier without the storage organs (bulbs) shrivelling. With fertiliser applications should always be cautious with fertiliser.
