Lycaste often has very beautiful large flowers and is extremely durable. Lycaste skinneri is the national flower of Guatemala.

Lycaste is a rather small orchid genus with its species occurring in Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and the West Indies. This genus grows mainly as an epiphyte on rocks and trees, but some species also grow on the ground. With a diameter of up to 15 cm, they have huge flowers in a wide variety of colours. While Lycaste likes to shed its old leaves, the flowers often last for weeks..

Special orchid care tips for Lycaste

Lycaste tends to need semi-shady to shady shady locations. In winter, however, a bright spot is the right place in our latitudes. Lycaste tolerates temperatures between 18 and 30 °C very well. Throughout the year, Lycaste wants a fairly even soil moisture throughout the year. Even in winter, the substrate should never dry out completely. During the growing season fertilise once a month and should not be fertilised in the winter months from November to February.
