The image that orchids are difficult plants is widespread. Only those with green fingers and gardening experience dare to take on these demanding houseplants. But if you choose the right plants as an orchid novice, you can quickly become a successful orchid gardener.

But what is it that fascinates us so much about this green diva?

For most of us, it is probably the exciting anticipation of the next flowering, because it usually only comes once a year. For some varieties, it can take a few years before the first flowers appear. It is signalled by a small stem that emerges from the leaf axils as if in slow motion and then usually only flowers for a few weeks. This makes it all the more satisfying when it produces flowers for the first time after years of care. And then their splendour and uniqueness can hardly be surpassed. This makes an orchid something very special and getting it to bloom is an exciting challenge for anyone who enjoys plants.

However, getting started without any experience or prior knowledge is a hurdle for many, as you want to avoid the frustration of seeing the precious plant die. It is best to seek advice from an experienced orchid grower.
