Companion plants are far more than just decorative additions in a pot or on a windowsill. They bring tranquillity, colour and vitality to a plant collection, whilst also creating a natural backdrop for special specimens. Combining orchids, flowering plants or solitary specimens with suitable foliage plants not only creates a harmonious overall look, but often also results in a more balanced microclimate around the plants.
What are companion plants?
Companion plants are green plants that do not need to be the main attraction, but enrich a plant ensemble both visually and functionally. These include, for example, ferns, peperomias, fittonias, small philodendrons, arrowroots and ivy plants. Many of these plants have a compact growth habit, produce attractive foliage and combine well with other houseplants.
The ‘Companion Plants’ category brings together all the foliage and flowering plants from our range that are not orchids.
In our range of companion plants features special foliage and flowering plants that either go very well with orchids or have other distinctive characteristics. Among others, we have bromeliads, tillandsias, ivy, dracaena and peperomia on offer. But we also have specialities such as gloxinia or unusual begonias. We also stock foliage plants with air-purifying properties.

A special characteristic of many companion plants is their subtle balancing effect. They blend in unobtrusively, yet make all the difference between a single potted plant and a small, vibrant plant display.
Tips on selection and care
Start by choosing companion plants based on their location: a bright spot without direct midday sun, consistently warm and with moderate humidity is ideal for many green plants. It is better to water regularly in small amounts rather than keeping the potting mix constantly wet. Care instructions are also provided for each companion plant. This helps you decide which plants go best with your favourite orchids. There are suitable plants for every temperature zone in the home, and some even produce beautiful blooms.
