Orchid Care Tip of the month May - Divide and multiply

Divide and multiply

Strong and branched plants can be propagated by division.

Order of measures:

1.) Remove pot
2.) Remove old substrate thoroughly (shake off)
3.) Remove completely dried or rotten roots
4.) Divide plants (separate in the middle) by gently tearing or separating the rhizome with a knife or a rose scissors. Each part should be 2 to 3 shoots strong
5.) Leave plants for 1 day. Cut wounds dry off (scarred so that no pests can penetrate)
6.) Put in pots as small as possible. The weakened by division new plants run in too big pots risk to be shed by too large substrate volume and bad rooting.
7.) Shady place without draft for 6 to 8 weeks
