Do orchids need a rest period - yes or no?
Through decades of breeding work and talent in the individual orchid species, it has been possible to largely disappear the rest periods of orchids. Of course, if you buy natural species of the individual genera, you have to pay attention to one or the other special feature.
For example, the omission of fertilizer 3-4 months before flowering, a pronounced period of drought or lower temperatures and darkness may be characteristics of rest periods. Species with quite pronounced resting phase are many African species as well as Cattleya, Calanthe, Dendrobium, Liparis etc.
