Blue orchids – is there really something like that?
In the rain forests around the world there are numerous orchids in various shapes and colors. However, you wouldn't be able to find those with blue flowers, because nature has not produced such a thing.
Fortunately, in orchid breeding one is no longer bound to naturally occurring flower colors, so that there are now some dark blue-purple hybrids on the market. Those who want to buy a blue orchid will find it in the genus Vanda/Ascocenda, among others: the Vanda Royal Blue, for example, shines in strong dark blue and also shows contrasts with white speckles. Also in the popular genera Dendrobium and Ascocenda there are varieties that bloom in bright fresh blue, such as the Dendrobium Sa-Nook "Blue Happiness" and the Ascocenda Princess Mikasa "Blue".
Even if you want to buy an azure orchid, you will come across results on the internet. But what looks exciting, is sometimes only a joy for a short time. After withering, white flowers are produced again. That is the genetic code of this plant. Everything was just dyed.
Anyone who wants a permanently blue-flowering orchid is better advised with a hybrid by the orchid expert. For example Doritanopsis Purple Gem 'Aida' or Vanda Blue Magic and many others.
