Bulbophyllum
Bulbophyllum is probably the largest genus in the orchid family with over 2000 species.
This genus can be found across the continents in Southeast Asia and also in Africa. Some Bulbophyllum can also be found in South America. Bulbophyllum grows with flat, creeping rootstalks called rhizomes. A tied culture or flat bowls with a coarse orchid substrate are best suited. All Bulbophyllum have freely movable "lips".
Special orchid care instructions for Bulbophyllum
Bulbophyllum prefers a half shady to shady place. Temperatures between 20-25 °C are ideal. In winter many species react to a several-week cooler period and bloom better. In the summer you should water evenly and in winter keep the substrate rather dry. A really weak fertilizer is needed for most species.
